§ 3.09. City attorney.

  • The city council shall appoint a city attorney, together with such assistant city attorneys as may be authorized by ordinance. The city attorney shall be a member of the State Bar of Georgia. The city attorney shall be responsible for representing and defending the city in all litigation in which the city is a part; may be the prosecuting officer in the recorder's court; shall attend the meetings of the council as directed; shall advise the council, mayor and other officers and employees of the city concerning the city's legal affairs; shall draw all legal documents relating to the affairs of the city when requested by city officials to do so; shall inspect and give his opinion, when requested by the city council, on the legality and form of all agreements, contracts, franchises, and other legal instruments with which the city may be concerned; and shall perform such other duties as may be required of him by virtue of his position as city attorney.
