§ 16-5. Nepotism.

  • (a)

    The city manager shall not appoint or employ any person to any position in the city who is related to him or any member of the city council by blood or marriage within the second degree according to the rules of canon law. The council shall not elect, appoint or employ any person to any position in the city who is related to any member of the council or the city manager by blood or marriage within the second degree according to the rules of canon law. No person shall be employed in any department of the city who is related to the department head of that particular department by blood or marriage within the second degree according to the rules of canon law.

    (b)

    Persons presently employed shall not be affected by the above provisions, nor shall any employee be affected by any new councilman being elected or new city manager or department head being appointed that is related to him.
