§ 17-53. Same—Determination.

Latest version.
  • Structures fronting streets from the east and those fronting streets from the south shall bear even numbers. Structures fronting streets from the west and those fronting streets from the north shall bear odd numbers. Buildings fronting streets running north and south shall be numbered from the baseline; such numbers shall be zero at the baseline and not to exceed the number 99 at the end of the first block, either north or south of the baseline, 101 at the beginning and not to exceed the number 199 at the end of the second block either north or south of the baseline. Such system shall be followed in numbering all the streets running north and south in the city. Buildings fronting streets running east and west shall be numbered from the baseline; such numbers shall be zero at the baseline and shall not exceed the number 99 at the end of the first block either east or west of the baseline, and so on in the same manner as set forth above for streets running north and south. Any blocks located upon streets that do not intersect the baselines shall bear the hundred number of the corresponding block nearest the same location that does intersect the baseline. In each block in the residential sections, fifty (50) feet of frontage shall be deemed the unit for determining the last figure of the number to be used. In the business district twenty-five (25) feet of frontage shall be the unit for determining the last figure of the number to be used, except where a block is completely occupied by buildings or structures, as on Wall Street and Bank Block, in which case each entrance will be assigned a number without regard to frontage. Fractions may be used if necessary to designate a building located on a fractional part of a frontage.
