§ 19-2. Repair of crossings.
It shall be the duty of all railroad companies operating a line of railroads through the city, over or across any street or avenue in the city, now or hereafter established, to construct and maintain the track bed as nearly uniform with the level of the street surface on both sides as practicable, and to so construct and maintain the rails as to be as nearly level with the surface of the track bed as practicable, or to provide a system of false rails or steel bars parallel with the track, the width of the street, spaced so as to avoid unnecessary jolting of automobiles, trucks, wagons and other vehicles crossing the track.
