§ 8-1. Election funds; voting machines; polling place; election officials; qualification of candidates.

  • (a)

    The city shall expend such funds as may be necessary for the conduct of elections in the city and for the performance of other duties under the Georgia Election Code, including payment of reasonable compensation to persons performing services in connection with the duties imposed by said code, for the purchase or printing of all ballots and other election supplies, for the rental and other costs of voting machines and election equipment, and for all other expenses arising out of the performance of election duties under the Georgia Election Code and the charter of the city. The above authority shall be exercised within the limits imposed by the charter and the funds budgeted by the city for the current year.

    (b)

    The city clerk is hereby authorized and directed to make suitable arrangements with the proper officials of the county for the use by the city of voting machines of the county; and the use of such voting machines for recording and computing the vote at all elections to be held in the city is hereby authorized or the city by intergovernmental agreement may authorize the county election superintendent to conduct said election and use all of the county's voting machines, equipment and staff to conduct said election.

    (c)

    The Civic Center, 435 West Main Street and the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce at 122 West Main Street are hereby designated as the polling places for all municipal elections.

    (d)

    All election officials of the city shall perform their duties in accordance with the provisions of the Georgia Election Code, O.C.G.A. tit. 21, all applicable rules and regulations promulgated by the state election board, and insofar as they do not conflict with the foregoing, the Charter and ordinances of the city. The qualification dates and notices shall be determined and compiled with according to the Georgia Election Code, O.C.G.A. tit. 21.

    (e)

    A qualification fee for any candidate in any municipal election shall be three (3) percent of the annual salary of such office, if salaried. If the office is not salaried, the qualified fee shall be thirty-five dollars ($35.00).
