§ 2.01. Establishment of city government.

  • The corporate governmental powers of the City of Cartersville shall be vested in a mayor and four (4) councilmen, to be known as the "city council," until January 1, 1990, at which time such powers of the City of Cartersville shall be vested in a mayor and six (6) councilmen, to be known as the "city council." The mayor shall be elected as provided in this charter by the qualified voters of the city at large. Each councilman shall be elected as provided in this charter by the qualified voters who reside in the ward from which such councilman seeks office. The mayor and councilmen shall exercise their powers in such a manner as prescribed by this charter, the Constitution of the State of Georgia, and applicable general laws of the State of Georgia or, if not prescribed, in such manner as prescribed by the duly established ordinances of the City of Cartersville.
