§ 16-78. Responsibilities.

  • (a)

    Employer. It is the goal of the city to foster a work environment in which each employee is treated with courtesy, dignity and consideration. The city is committed to fulfill its obligations to its employees in regard to protection against sexual harassment.

    (b)

    Supervisor. A supervisor acts as the agent or official representative for the city while carrying out his or her responsibilities. If an allegation of sexual harassment is brought to the attention of the supervisor, he or she should:

    (1)

    Proceed swiftly in handling the allegation;

    (2)

    Assure all individuals involved that the matter will be handled in a confidential manner;

    (3)

    Document all conversations with individuals involved;

    (4)

    Follow the following procedures for dealing with allegations of sexual harassment.

    (c)

    City manager. The city manager acts as a neutral party who is available to assist both the employee and the supervisor in interpreting policies and procedures regarding sexual harassment and to advise proper courses of action.
