§ 19-6. Watchman to warn public of switching or backing.

It shall be unlawful for any engineer or other person in charge of a locomotive engine attached to a car or train of cars and otherwise to make running switches, or to back an engine, car or train of cars on any railroad track in the city across any street unless such movement is preceded by a watchman, to give warning to the traveling public, except when such warning is given by properly operating automatic signals.
